DUBLIN, IRELAND — Fitness and health professional and blogger Sylvia Diaz held her first solo speaking event on Saturday, 29 September, at Third Space in Smithfield, Dublin 7. The event, “How To Eat For Life”, consisted of a nutrition talk about the external factors that affect our food choices, followed by a live recipe demo and tasting. Various brands specializing in healthy food products were also present, offering the audience a taste and a chance to purchase products.
One of the event highlights was Sylvia’s detail of her career path from international fashion model to Health and Fitness Professional and the years she spent working in the corporate world in between. With charming delivery, she shared her story of how she improved her relationship with food as well as her vast knowledge on healthy eating for life. The experiences gained in those different professional areas led her to discover her true passion for helping people achieve happiness through a long-term healthy lifestyle!
The talk also focused on overcoming the external factors in people’s lives that may lead to poor food choices. By achieving this we can learn to eat in a balanced and sustainable way without looking for validation in food. Sylvia shared that the secret does not lie in dieting or heavy restrictions but in recognizing what are the triggers that make us reach for the type of food that gives us comfort rather than the nutritional qualities we need and how to tame those urges in the long term.
The Q&A brought audience questions on a variety of topics, from what to eat before a workout to more personal advice, such as how she transitioned from a professional job to full-time blogging and working with clients.
(In addition to the talk, Sylvia also gave a live demonstration of a recipe that she created in three different versions – plain, sweet, and savoury. Guests were then invited to taste the recipe and share their opinion in a casual environment that encouraged communication.)
One of the sponsor brands, Dr. Coy’s, raffled a hamper of their nutritional chocolate bars and free from cooking ingredients to a delighted member of the audience.
It was an afternoon packed with useful nutrition advice, tastings of various products and recipes, and most importantly, an honest discussion on what makes us choose the food that we choose.
