Bulgaria is mainly renowned for its cheese and meat, so if you’re heading to Sofia and are wondering about what you’re going to eat in the capital city, hopefully this Sofia food guide makes your life a whole lot easier to find yummy food in lovely restaurants.
Just to make it clear, 1€ is equivalent to 2levas but I will mention everything in €s.
Sense hotel
I stayed there 4 nights and the breakfast was delish! 25€ and it had everything you need in a buffet, including the most typical food:
– Banitsa (a kind of puff pastry stuffed with cheese or spinach) but the most typical one with obviously with cheese 🙂
– Lutanitsa is the combination of sweet peppers and tomatoes. This tender sauce is served with meat, fish or toast. I put it on the bread in the mornings and also in the croissant that were done homemade in front of you.
– Dairy, kind of cheeses:
– Kashkaval cheese is Bulgaria’s popular yellow, semi-hard cheese made from sheep’s milk that can be spicy or bland and is typically aged for six months. It is similar to the blue cheese.
– Feta cheese Bulgarian feta cheese (sirene) is a fresh soft brined cheese made with sheep’s, goat’s or cow’s milk and considered by some to be superior to Greek or French feta. It is also known as “white brine sirene.” It has a strong aroma and a salty, sharp taste.
– White cheese is the most common cheese in Bulgaria, there is no any other similar taste in any country in the world.
Natural Yogurt was also one of the dairy selection.
You were able to ask for an omelette with any ingredient.
The view is spectacular, it is one of the tallest buildings of Sofia and located in the city centre, where you can see the big cathedral.
Something to highlight is that there were no refined pastries! only natural sugar, like dried fruits and honey.
Just because of the amazing view to the whole Sofia city and the typical Bulgarian food and no sugary option (no temptation) make the hotel be scored 10/10
Sense Rooftop
Lunch or dinners in the rooftop of Sense hotel was an experience, amazing view from the top of the hotel like in the morning.
The amount of food was small but tasty. Honestly the food was good, but nothing ultra-mega amazing and small amoun, the view was totally worth at all
